“It has been a great learning experience for all of us.”
Fiji Hockey men’s coach Shaun Corrie said the FIH Hockey 5s World Cup was a very competitive tournament where the side finished in 15th place.
“Although we had a slow start, we had a strategy in place,” he said.
Corrie said against New Zealand and Nigeria, they were ahead in the beginning, however, some crucial calls didn’t go their way and cost them the match.
“We are happy that we won the last game against Jamaica and finished in 15th place at the end of the tournament,” he said.
The men’s side lost their opening match against a stronger USA side, losing 3-14.
The US is ranked 24th in outdoor 11s while Fiji is ranked 62nd.
The side went down against hosts Oman 3-8, before losing by the same margin to powerhouse Malaysia who are ranked in the top 10.
The men’s team went on to lose against New Zealand in a closely contested match by 5-6.
In their second last game, the side was locked 5-all at full-time, with Nigeria winning in the shootouts.
The Terence Corrie-led side finished in 15th place after beating Jamaica in their final match 4-2.
The team arrived back in the country on Friday.
