THE Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball Finals 2026 opening in Labasa yesterday is being seen as a strong sign of the rapid growth of grassroots netball in the country, with participation numbers continuing to rise each year.
The tournament at Subrail Park has attracted more than 2000 young players from 29 districts, making it one of the largest primary school sporting events in Fiji.
Goodman Fielder head of marketing Tim Smith said the level of participation shows the strength of development pathways at school level.
“We are very proud to support an event that brings together over 2000 young athletes from 31 districts right across Fiji.”
Smith said the event plays a key role in building confidence and character in young athletes.
“This event is a celebration of netball and the role it plays in fostering values such as teamwork, communication, discipline, confidence and inclusivity.”
He said it was also important that young players are supported beyond the court, including through proper nutrition.
“It is vital that young netballers are nourishing their bodies with the right nutrition.”
He said the partnership with the Fiji Primary Schools Netball Association was focused on long-term athlete development.
“Our partnership is about creating opportunities for young athletes to grow in confidence and character.”
He encouraged players to take full advantage of the experience.
