Suva Grammar School dethroned Marist Brothers High School to win the Vodafone Super Deans under-15 title.
As expected, it was a physical, tough affair for the two traditional rivals and it was the Lions that came out on top with a 31-24 win at the HFC Bank Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva.
Flanker Amani Vatubuli played a huge game for the Grammarians and his work ethic did not go unnoticed as he was named the player of the match.
The young gentleman from Lau said the win isn’t just for them but for the entire Grammar pride.
“I dedicate this medal and my performance to my mum, my uncle and family for supporting me throughout the weeks of training. I dedicate this win to my coach and fellow Grammarians.
“For me to be the best player, it’s an honour, I feel blessed and this achievement is not for me but for the boys as well,” said Vatubuli.
The 15-year-old said they encountered everything they expected from Marist in the final.
“I wanna thank the almighty God for being the source of strength to me and the team. Coming into the final today (yesterday), Marist wasn’t an easy team to beat but I just wanna thank the Almighty God and the boys for giving their 100 per cent,” he added.
The team received $3000 in prize money.
