SUVA Grammar School is setting its sights on a clean sweep at the Central Rally, with coach Georgina Batisaresare challenging her players to build on a strong Southern Zone campaign.
“Our aim is to try and win all four grades that we go in,” Batisaresare said
The Central Rally starts today at 3pm, with Friday set aside for a full day of competition as Grammar looks to carry its recent form into another demanding tournament.
Grammar enters the rally with confidence after producing a strong campaign at last Thursday’s Southern Zone 2 Secondary Schools Netball Finals.
The school captured the U15 and U19 titles, while also finishing runners-up in the U14 and Open Boys grades.
The U15 side defeated Saint Joseph’s Secondary School 22-10 before the U19 team secured the prestigious Vosarogo Trophy with a convincing 19-5 victory over the same opponent.
Grammar came close to claiming a third title in the U14 grade, narrowly losing 17-16 to Saint Joseph’s in one of the closest finals of the day.
Its Open Boys side also pushed for honours before going down 12-14 to Yat Sen Secondary School.
The results across the grades have given Grammar an encouraging platform heading into the Central Rally, with the school now looking to turn that consistency into further success.
Batisaresare was pleased with the effort from her players, saying the performances reflected the commitment shown throughout their preparation.
“I am very happy that all the teams we came with to play in the finals.
“We won the U15 grade and the U19 grade, but we are second in the U14 and Open Boys grade, and that is an achievement.”
The Central Rally will provide Grammar with another opportunity to test its depth across the four grades while identifying areas that need improvement.
Batisaresare said the immediate focus would be on improving fitness and refining the school’s style of play as the teams continue to develop.
The rally will also form part of Grammar’s wider preparation for the National Secondary Schools Netball Championships later this year.
After showing its strength across several grades at the Southern Zone finals, Grammar will now look to make the most of the Central Rally and continue building towards its national campaign.
