RURAL and Maritime Development Minister Mosese Bulitavu says Government is carrying out development projects fairly across the North.
Mr Bulitavu made the comments after concerns were raised that too much money was spent at Korotasere in Cakaudrove on projects such as footpaths, sanitation, roads and evacuation centres.
However, Mr Bulitavu said the work carried out at Korotasere was normal government assistance given to communities around Fiji.
“These assistance are provided to all communities. It is done throughout Fiji and not specifically for Cakaudrove or Korotasere,” he said.
He said the projects were carried out after requests by the vanua.
“We provided that assistance upon the request of the vanua, working collaboratively with the ministry,” Mr Bulitavu said.
“We do the same for other communities, and governments in the past have done even more than what we have done.”
He said villages in Cakaudrove were not being prioritised over the other two provinces in the Northern Division.
“I think there is fair development across the board. It is not only in Cakaudrove.”
Mr Bulitavu said developments were taking place in all three provinces.
“If you speak to the divisional planning officer or the commissioner, they can brief you on the number of projects happening across the three provinces.”
He said funding had been fairly shared through the different development programs.
