The Coalition Government will, through sports, continue to address issues such as gender disparity, disability, youth empowerment and social inclusion.
These were the words of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka while speaking at the FASANOC 2022 Sports Awards at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Saturday night.
“Initiatives such as the PacificAus Sports Partnership help create pathways for our young people, especially our women and girls. We hope to use such programs to achieve our development agenda,” the Prime Minister said.
He said the participation of women and girls would be on the rise and sports would be turned into a major income-generating industry.
“The programs have also been organised to encourage the participation of women and girls in sports.
“The People’s Coalition Government will continue to invest in sports through modernising and building more state-of-the-art sporting facilities.
“There is huge potential to harness our sporting prowess and transform sports into a major income-generating industry.”
The Prime Minister added that the National Sports Policy is also being reviewed.
“This will promote the participation of all Fiji citizens, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, or physical and mental ability.
“The policy will set out our vision for sports for 2023 and beyond. It will define the actions taken to achieve our ambitious and achievable goals.”
