The Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry has launched the Tropical Cyclone Vaianu Rehabilitation Assistance Programme, alongside Phase One of its Food Security Response, to support farmers affected by the recent cyclone.

The initiative focuses on restoring damaged farms and promoting home gardening to strengthen food security and community resilience.

The programme is open to crop farmers in affected areas, including Kadavu, Ba, Nadroga/Navosa, Ra and Naitasiri, who suffered losses during Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.

As part of the rollout, farmers are required to complete an application detailing the extent of damage, crop types affected, land size, and level of loss. Applicants must also provide identification and photographic evidence of damaged crops.

Officials say the data collected will help guide targeted assistance and ensure support reaches those most impacted.

The Ministry is encouraging eligible farmers to apply, saying the programme is a key step in rebuilding livelihoods and strengthening resilience against future disasters.

Authorities say the initiative will also help boost local food production as communities recover from the cyclone’s impact.
