The Ministry of Civil Service has directed government agencies to activate business continuity plans and implement work-from-home arrangements as severe weather continues to affect the country.

In a public advisory issued in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies were instructed to activate contingency measures for Tuesday, June 16.

“Work from home arrangements are to be activated,” the advisory stated.

The directive comes as a Heavy Rain Warning and Strong Wind Warning remain in force across Fiji.

While essential services are to remain operational, non-essential staff have been advised to work remotely where possible.

The Ministry said Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies may authorise localised office closures, scale down operations or adjust reporting arrangements in areas where access is unsafe.

“Staff should not be required to travel through flooded roads, unsafe crossings, coastal inundation areas, landslide-prone areas, or debris-affected routes,” the advisory said.

The Ministry also directed that work-from-home arrangements be extended to parents and guardians affected by the nationwide closure of schools.

The measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of public servants while maintaining essential government services during the adverse weather conditions.

Government said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as conditions evolve.
