Gounder elected as general secretary of teachers union

Fiji Teachers Union former national president Muniappa Gounder has been elected the general secretary of the union.

General secretary’s position was held by Agni Deo Singh for the past 23 years, who resigned from his post last year to contest 2022 general election.

Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam has retained his position of assistant general secretary.

Former general treasurer Sashi Mahendra Shandil has been elected the national president of FTU.

The duly elected candidates for FTU national are as follows:

• President – Sashi Mahendra Shandil.

• Vice president (3) – Urmila Wati, Pratosh Kumar and Pranesh Praveen Sharma.

• General secretary – Muniappa Goundar.

• Assistant general secretary – Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam.

• General treasurer – Pranesh Kumar.

• Executive committee members (3) – Kamlesh Karan, Madhur Prakash and Vishal Raj.

• Personnel officer – Rameshwar Lal.

• Publicity officer – Brij Bhan Singh.

Fiji Teachers Union national elections was held on Saturday at various venues around the country.
