DEFENCE is still an area the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s side needs to address as they compete in the the Hong Kong 7s, which began yesterday.
That’s according to head coach Osea Kolinisau following their 42-5 win over Germany in the first pool match yesterday.
“There were a few things we could have done right; we should have spread the ball wide but we kept going inside,” Kolinisau told Times Sport.
Germany was no match for Fiji, however, were able to break through defence systems at times but were put down by Fiji.
Despite this, Kolinisau commended his squad for starting their Hong Kong campaign on a high note.
“But good effort from the boys, we still need to work on our defence and our communication as well.”
Fiji led 21-0 at half-time, following three converted tries made by Terio Tamani with two and Filipe Sauturaga with one.
After the break, Tira Wilagi-Patterson crossed with two tries and debutant Tomasi Vuluma Stark scoring a try as well.
Kolinisau was happy with the Naviti, Yasawa man’s efforts.
“I’m happy for Tomasi (Stark) getting his first try especially in Hong Kong,”he said.
“I know I’m looking forward to continue seeing him grow when the tournament goes into this weekend.” Conversions made by Tamani, Vuiviwa Naduvalo and Douglas Daveta were all successful.
The Germans made an unconverted try at the hooter, when Makonnen Amekuedi sprinted through to add points on their side of the scoreboard.
The Fiji 7s side met Great Britain when this edition went to press last night.
