The Ministry of Trade has already made submissions towards draft legislation that will regulate the sale of industrial glue in the country.
When asked for an update, Minister Manoa Kamikamica said the legislation was now with the Ministry of Education.
“It’s been through some drafts so we’re trying to get that to come through so that we can table it this year and better regulate the drugs (glue) in the country,” he said.
“Actually, the draft legislation that we are looking at now, the previous government had started developing it since 2011.
“So, you could argue that they could have probably done something all those years ago, had the Government had the political will to actually do something about it.
“Again, we are dealing with issues inherited from the previous government.
“But we are now in a position, not only to criticise, but actually to do something. And we are in the process of getting that legislation through.”
He said he was hopeful of getting the legislation before Cabinet soon.
