Rewa delegate to the Great Council of Chiefs Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi says unemployment and education are two key issues he hopes the Bose Levu Vakaturaga will help address.
Speaking to The Fiji Times during the GCC meeting on Bau Island this week, he said the council should seriously consider the issues affecting all Fijians and put in place measures to improve the iTaukei people’s position.
Ratu Ilisoni said several positive ideas were being explored and they were being discussed in the context of today’s society.
He said they brought up the subject of unemployment and education because in light of the difficulties many iTaukei were facing, education was crucial to the economic growth of the indigenous people.
Ratu Ilisoni said the Fiji Bureau of Statistics numbers which highlighted poverty as a major issue for the iTaukei, meant education should be one of the GCC’s top objectives.
He said the GCC would always work with the government when it came to efforts to improve the iTaukei people’s position.
