A delegation from the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) that will comprise representatives from each province, including Rotuma, will embark on a tour of three Chinese provinces this month.
Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu will lead the delegation on this ‘strategic visit’, fully funded by the Chinese government.
He said the visit signified a major step forward in the development of iTaukei villages, following the historic re-establishment of the GCC after 16 years.
“We extend our deepest appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji for facilitating this remarkable opportunity,” Mr Vasu said in a government statement.
“Seeing China’s development first-hand will be an invaluable experience for the GCC. This visit will no doubt play a pivotal role in guiding our strategies to uplift iTaukei villages.”
The trip is scheduled from December 2-10.
According to the Government, central to the delegation’s agenda is learning from China’s successful poverty alleviation and rural development strategies.
“This knowledge will be invaluable in enhancing the socio-economic fabric of iTaukei villages, fostering sustainable and inclusive growth,” Mr Vasu said.
