Burebasaga high chief and Marama Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa has described the repealing of the Great Council of Chiefs under the Bainimarama administration as one that robbed the iTaukei people in this country.
In opening the GCC complex in Nasese, Suva, Ro Teimumu said the new building meant the chiefs of this nation now have a place they can call home.
“Tragically, a certain regime revoked and repealed the GCC, basically rendering them homeless for 16 years and systematically robbing them and the itaukei people,” she said.
“It is no wonder when the legislation were democratically enacted and captured in the 2013 Constitution, there were people, even those who call Fiji home did not understand the full story of how the itaukei people were legally stripped off.
“It is indeed a blessing for me and the people of Burebasaga to be given this time to open the vale ni Bose Levu Vakaturaga.”
She thanked the Coalition Government for rebuilding the complex for the GCC.
