POLICE Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has been visiting police divisions around the country over the past few months to help create an environment in which the force can work with the community — moving forward.
Mr Tudravu said when he came into the organisation, there were many challenges, both internally and externally.
“Externally, there is a gap between the Fiji Police Force and the community at large,” he said.
“There seems to be no trust and no confidence in how we are delivering ourselves to the members of the public.”
He said his visits were “just trying to get all things together and have an environment where we can all work together”.
“As already stated by the Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad, what we are facing is a war against drugs and that is something we are focusing on at this point.”
Mr Tudravu told the Nadi business forum last week that the police force had encountered numerous issues since 2006 and continues to do so today.
“I am standing here as the eighth commissioner of police since 2006. And when you have changes of leadership all along, it will impact the overall organisation.
“So, internally, we are trying our best to look within our system and what we can improve from within, in order for us to deliver externally to our customers.”
