Ba will once again host soccer matches from next year when the new look Govind Park is expected to be unveiled.

The soccer crazy town has not hosted a match since 2016 when the stadium was ravaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Ba Town Council special administrator Anil Amin said the second phase of the long-awaited upgrade will soon begin.

“You know Ba is known as the soccer crazy town of this country and not having Govind Park host soccer matches has been a big issue for all of us,” Amin said.

“We have always received questions from fans why Govind has not been done but now we finally can answer that question.

“Everything has now been finalised and we deeply thank the Government of the day for giving us a budget of $3.5 million.

“Of course this budget does not include floodlights and that will be done in the next phase.

“However, within this budget we will embark to try and complete the ground, the perimeter fences and the boundary fence and at least ensure that we host some games in Ba.”

He said once revenue flows in from the events hosted at the new park, more refurbishments would then be carried out.

“Once we have proper revenue stream from the games then we can do more at Govind Park but today is still a great day because we have signed the new contract on behalf of the Ba Town Council and the people of Ba.

“So it is very good news for the people of Ba.”
