The Ministry of Education is now looking to review the Coca-Cola Games rules.

This was stated by the Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro in his closing remarks during the 2023 Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Stadium in Suva last month.

Mr Radrodro who spoke to over a thousand athletes and coaches said he understood that there were many students being attracted to join other schools even after being enrolled in certain schools.

“This was because promises of financial packages, as well as education assistance or better coaching environment,” he said.

“There have been instances when some students, have just been brought in to run for these games and leave secondary education right after.

“That is not healthy for competition. “Education is holistic where we teach ethics, values and long term commitment so I trust that trainers, school management, teachers, parents and guardians are careful to instil such values in our children and into our society.”

He acknowledged that athletes that have participated in the games had brought the game to another level.

“Champions have been made out of the games such as this,” he said.

“We have to acknowledge that the stamina, the endurances to train, the discipline and pain athletes have given to reach this have moulded characters that will be useful in life.”

There were 3156 athletes and 151 schools that participated in the Fiji Finals.
