In a show of their commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lailai has partnered with Corals for Conservation (C4C) in a promising new initiative to protect and revive coral reefs.

According to a news release by Tourism Fiji, the project involves heat-adapted “super corals” that resist bleaching and mortality in our temperature increasing waters, offering a ray of hope for the future of coral reefs.

“The preservation of coral reefs plays a crucial role in preventing the anticipated climate change-induced mass extinction of species and ecosystems worldwide,” the statement said.

Corals for Conservation, led by Dr Austin Bowden-Kerby, is actively collaborating with island resorts and local communities in proximity to the reefs, and encouraging guest participation on Plantation Island Resort in coral planting efforts to combat climate change’s impact on coral reefs.

The Tourism Fiji team reportedly made a visit to deepen their understanding of the project and learn how corals and coral planting initiatives work.

“We now understand how crucial it is to take care of these amazing underwater treasures for the future, do you? If not, we encourage you to find out more,” a Tourism Fiji update said.

Those interested in supporting the C4C project and play their part in protecting marine ecosystems are encouraged to seek knowledge, give, or find further information on ways to get involved via the C4C website at corals4conservation.org or participate in hands-on guest activities at the Plantation Island Resort.
