The People’s Alliance has kicked off its 2026 election fundraising drive, hoping to raise $200,000 to help supporters reach polling venues.

The party held its first kava barrel fundraiser at the Labasa Civic Centre recently, drawing support from communities across Vanua Levu.

Fundraising committee member Mitieli Batisaresare said transport difficulties contributed to low voter turnout in the last election.

“One of the challenges we saw in the last elections was fewer people turning up to polling venues because of transport issues,” he said.

“The fundraiser was supported by people from the three provinces in Vanua Levu.”

He said funds raised would go toward assisting voters with travel costs during the next election cycle.

“This is one of our first fundraisers, and we will be having it also in Cakaudrove and Bua,” he said.

He added that the party was considering taking its fundraising campaign to Viti Levu to broaden its reach.
