Fiji Airports says aviation fuel quality and supply issues at Nadi International Airport are being handled by fuel service providers and relevant authorities, as the airport closely monitors the developing situation.

In a statement to this newspaper, Fiji Airports said aviation fuel at Nadi International Airport was supplied and managed by the relevant fuel service providers.

“Matters relating to fuel quality, availability and supply are therefore being addressed by those providers in coordination with the relevant authorities, while Fiji Airports continues to support the safe and continuous operation of the airport,” the statement said.

Fiji Airports said Nadi International Airport remained open and operational, with established safety and operational protocols being maintained.

The airport operator said it was working closely with airlines, fuel suppliers, ground handling providers and other relevant stakeholders.

“Our primary responsibility is to support the safe and orderly operation of the airport, closely monitor fuel availability and expected supply, and assess any potential impacts on airport and airline operations,” it said.

“Where required, Fiji Airports is supporting stakeholders with appropriate contingency and operational planning to minimise disruption to passengers and flight operations.”

It said individual airlines continued to manage their own operational and fuel requirements in line with their procedures and regulatory obligations.

Fiji Airports said its immediate focus was on maintaining safe airport operations, coordinating with relevant parties and ensuring accurate and timely information was provided as the situation developed.

“Fiji Airports understands the concern this situation may cause passengers and the travelling public and acknowledges the inconvenience that any resulting operational adjustments may create.”

It said it would continue monitoring developments and support efforts to restore normal fuel supply arrangements as soon as practicable.
