HOUSEHOLDS and business communities should expect to dig a little deeper into their pockets from today as the authorised fuel prices for September sees an increase for diesel, motor spirit and kerosene.

Effective from September 1, diesel price increases will range from 28 to 30 cents a litre, motor spirit (petrol) will increase by 3 to 4 cents a litre, while kerosene increases between 23 to 25 cents a litre.

LPG prices, however, will decrease by between $2.61 to $3.40 for 4.5kg cylinder, and $6.96 to $9.05 for 12kg cylinder.

According to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), the global energy market for motor spirit, kerosene and diesel products remained highly volatile with geopolitical developments continuing to have a significant influence on international petroleum prices.

“During the assessment period, international markets had anticipated progress towards an agreement between Iran and the United States, which was expected to ease geopolitical tensions and provide some stability to global oil and petroleum product markets,” the FCCC stated.

“However, the anticipated agreement did not eventuate. This resulted in renewed market uncertainty and contributed to upward movements in international petroleum product prices.”

It stated those developments, together with ongoing geopolitical tensions, evolving global trade conditions and supply chain disruptions, continued to place pressure on international fuel markets.

The September 2026 regulated Fuel and LPG prices are based on imports made in July 2026 and, therefore, reflect the international market conditions and associated costs prevailing during that period.
