FRU’s future plan

FIJI Rugby Union (FRU) chairman Francis Kean said they would be discussing some development plans with the Fiji Primary Schools Rugby Union Association (FPSRUA) to benefit the young talents and future of Fiji Rugby.

“The long-term future of Kaji rugby, that’s an ongoing discussion that we are having with FPSRUA officials. FRU has some plans that we wish to discuss with the FPSRUA to see that we get the best in channelling the talents that we have down at this level of our game so that one day these young ruggers will get to don our national white jumper,” Kean said.

Also he commended island district teams for turning up and also creating some major upsets against big teams such as defending champions Suva Blues.

This follows Kadavu’s impressive performance against tournament favourites Suva Blues.

The defending champions Suva Blues lost in two grades, in the under-10 grade 10-7 to Kadavu and in the under-12 grade to Cakaudrove 5-0.

In addition, another district that has made another notable impact was Kadavu, whose under-10 and under-13 grades cruised through all their pool games undefeated.

“Especially from Kadavu, it was a good result from the kids from Kadavu and it’s always good to have teams from the islands competing well.

“And coming away with victories from some of the more prominent schools on the main island of Viti Levu.

Furthermore he commended the spirit of camaraderie showed by the players.

“It’s nice to see the kids have a tournament like this. I think a week of them coming together to enjoy the camaraderie of the sport. It’s nice to see the kids all smiling and enjoying the game of rugby in a very competitive competition,” Kean said.
