Lives lost forever

BUSINESSES will recover, jobs will come back, but the lives are lost forever. These were the sentiments of Unity Fiji party leader Savenaca Narube in a statement calling for the remembrance of the decision by Government not to lock the country down in the early stages of the second wave of the pandemic, which he says cost us many lives. “As the country painfully emerges from the COVID-19 crisis, we hear self-congratulations by this government,” he said. “There is absolutely nothing to gloat about.”

Voter cards for Fijians overseas

THE Fijian Elections Office is looking at the legalities surrounding Fijians overseas who wanted new voter cards. This, according to Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem during a press conference at Nakasi voters centre this week. “For overseas voters, we will be announcing plans on how they could update their details on their voter cards,” he said.

Hiding problems

WOMEN hide their problems, says Minister for Women and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar. While speaking at the Pinktober and International Rural Women’s Day celebrations in Ba yesterday, Ms Akbar explained the importance of women coming forward to seek help for their needs. “Women hide their problems because they think if their family comes to know about it, how will they see her?” she said.
