Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has asked for the people’s understanding as the Coalition Government tries to manage Fiji’s debt level through measures that “may bring pain” to some. In an address to the nation ahead of of the 2023/2024 National Budget tomorrow, he called on communities to rally and assist one another in their time of need. Mr Rabuka also said the Fijian economy has shown positive growth in the last 12 months, however, if this growth was to continue, Government needed to consider some hard decisions to keep Fiji on that trajectory. He also said the Budget would be balanced, restrained and people centered, with key focus on social welfare, education, health and infrastructure development. That’s the big news on the front page of the Fiji Times for Thursday, June 29.

Backtracks

The musical journey continues, every Thursday in The Fiji Times.

From school dropout to disc jockeying to finally becoming the drummer of Fiji’s first exclusive reggae bands, this is the story of John Kuimaiwasa — aka Tall John. Known to many as a true reggae pioneer, there wasn’t a reggae hit that Tall John couldn’t play. His love for the drums began when he laid his eyes on a drum kit in his namesake’s room back in Vatukoula many years ago. Read his story in Backtracks!
