Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka says while there have been some “rifts” within the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) over the past year, there is unity in support of all three SODELPA party ministers in Government. Mr Gavoka told The Fiji Times’ online platform, The Lens @177 that the party was badly damaged by dissension within the party, however, it would benefit by focusing on what it was doing and remaining results orientated. “Come 2026, we can fall back on some things and say, ‘look, these are some things that we have accomplished for the people’,” he said.
That’s the big news on the front page of The Fiji Times for Wednesday. December 27.
In the second story on the front page, while there is room to implement harsher penalties for drug offences, they are not being dished out by the courts to deal with this issue. In an interview with The Lens@177, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said penalties should be used as a deterrent as Fiji had recidivism.
