Bula vinaka.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the stories that made the headlines in The Fiji Times’ edition for Tuesday, April 27.

12 new cases

Again, the big one is on the announcements made by the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong about the 12 new COVID-19 cases. He said seven of them are linked to the 29-year-old Makoi woman who tested positive on Sunday. It was good to know that we do not have a community transmission. The woman has been linked to the COVID positive soldier in Nadi (case 73).

Call 158 urgently

Remember: Any person who travelled from Viti Levu to Vanua Levu on April 19 is urged to call the 158 helpline, and all those who attended the church service in Nasereci at 10.30am on April 18 have been urged to contact their nearest health facility or call 158. Please come forward. Let’s remind ourselves to adhere to social distancing rules. Wash your hands often with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer. Mask up if you plan to go out in public today.

FIJI has enough ventilators that are on reserve, says Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong.

Patient moved

ONE of the 36 COVID-19 patients was moved to a divisional hospital last night “out of an abundance of caution”.

Non-essential travel

ALL villages are to cease all non-essential travel and to go into lock-down mode.

No new cluster

FIJI does not have a new cluster or community transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

What virus variant?

HEALTH authorities are treating the COVID-19 virus that is at the centre of a new outbreak as possibly an Indian variant.
