Zainal Ali’s departure to New Zealand earlier this week marks the end of a remarkable chapter in his football journey.

Having dedicated the past four years to Navua FC, Zainal has become a key figure in Fiji’s football scene.

His journey began in his childhood, growing up in the village of Navakai, Nadi, where he recalls, “Started playing in the village, watching our village teams playing in the local league every Sunday and then playing in school.” This early exposure sparked his passion for the game.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Zainal made the life-changing decision to move to Navua, where he would later join the Navua Football Association in 2021.

“League FC got my release from Nadi back then and I’ve been part of Navua ever since,” he shared.

His youth career was equally impressive, having represented Nadi Muslim Primary, Nadi Muslim College, and the district teams of Nadi, Lautoka, and Navua.

He also earned national recognition, playing for Fiji’s U-20 and U-23 teams.

He was also selected to be part of the senior national side but could not join camp due to work commitments.

Beyond his on-field contributions, Zainal’s story resonates with aspiring athletes, particularly in his home village of Navakai.

“It’s all about passion and dedication. The hard work pays off,” he reflects, emphasising the importance of perseverance.

Leaving his family of wife and two kids behind in Fiji, Zainal embarks on a new chapter.

However, his legacy of passion, commitment, and leadership in Fiji football will continue to inspire future generations.
