FRIENDS United Masters are the Over-40 champions of the R.C. Manubhai/APCO Coatings International Veterans Tournament after defeating Ba Masters 3-0 in the final at 4R Stadium in Ba yesterday.
Friends United dominated the opening half, applying pressure and playing good tactical football. Their efforts were rewarded when Simione Tamanisau scored the opening goal.
They maintained a strong defensive structure to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Friends United continued with their well-structured game plan in the second half and remained solid in defence.
Ba Masters pushed for an equaliser, but Friends United continued to apply pressure and extended their lead through Nitan Kumar.
Valerio Nawatu then added another goal to seal a convincing 3-0 victory for Friends United Masters.
Senior player Tamanisau thanked God for the victory and praised Ba Masters for their performance.
“I want to thank God for the win and thank Ba Masters for giving us a good game.
“Coming into the final, it was not an easy journey.
“There were a lot of good teams that we met along the way, and they provided us with a good challenge,” Tamanisau said.
