The Fiji Police Force says all supporting evidentiary documents relating to the investigation into the death of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi have been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
In a statement, Police confirmed that investigation files concerning the alleged involvement of police officers have also been submitted to the ODPP.
The development marks a significant step in the investigation, with prosecutors now expected to independently assess the evidence gathered.
According to Police, the ODPP has advised that its review of the files is expected to take between three and four weeks.
“The Fiji Police Force has been advised that the review of the files by the ODPP will take between three to four weeks,” the statement said.
Police said further updates on the matter would be released once independent legal advice is received from the ODPP.
“Further progress will be released upon receipt of the ODPP’s independent legal advice,” the statement added.
The death of Police Constable Racagi has drawn public attention, with the outcome of the ODPP’s review expected to guide the next steps in the case.
Two persons were initially charged in relation to the murder, but charges were withdrawn by the ODPP.
