The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side lost their round one match against a strong French side 24-21 during the Fiji Airways Mini International 7s at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

The French were quick off the mark as tries from Omcoe Jacquet and Caroline Drouin handed them a 10-nil lead going into the break.

France looked to have continued with their momentum from the first half, as they scored another try in the opening minutes of the second spell to extend their lead to 17-nil. Reapi Ulunisau pulled one back for the Fijiana 7s as they trailed 7-17.

France took the game to Fiji as they scored another converted try.

Two late converted tries to winger Younis Bese and Maria Rokotuisiga didn’t help the Fijiana side as it was not enough to beat France. In the final match for the Fijiana 7s yesterday, the the side defeated Aussie Gold Women’s side 22-7 to end the day on a high note.

Fijiana 7s capitalised on a number of infringements against the Australian side as they scored three tries to lead by 17-nil at the break.

Fiji scored another try in the second spell while Aussie Gold got their consolation try at the stroke of full-time.
