The Boxing Commission of Fiji has suspended South Pacific Boxing Promotion.

This decision comes in the wake of the tragic incident in October involving the death of local boxer Ubayd Haider, also known as Nathan Singh, under the promotion of Freddy Chand.

Haider collapsed after his fight against Runqi Zhou in Nadi and unfortunately did not recover from the subsequent surgery.

In a press conference yesterday, the BCF confirmed that they have suspended the licence of South Pacific Boxing Promotion effective from November 29.

Eroni Loganimoce, a BCF board member and ring supervisor said the decision to suspend the licence was made because of the promoter’s failure to adhere to certain agreements.

Despite being instructed to refrain from certain activities, such as making comments on social media, the promoter continued to do so.

“There were discrepancies in fulfilling obligations related to medical provisions on fight day, including ambulance services and drug testing mandated by the IBO,” said Loganimoce.

The promoter’s actions, such as attempting to sow discord within the board, raised concerns about the safety and well-being of boxers under his promotion.

“The other attempt of creating hate between the board, he didn’t initiate that when we asked him to provide evidence, he prefers not to talk to us for that.”

The BCF emphasised that the safety of boxers is of paramount importance and that they are dedicated to preventing any further incidents like the tragic death of Haider.
