The Fiji Roads Authority has raised concerns over increasing incidents of damaged and missing road signage across the country, warning that the trend is posing serious safety risks for motorists and pedestrians.

In a statement, the FRA said vandalism, theft, and unsafe driving practices are contributing to the growing problem, with signs being defaced, knocked down, or removed entirely.

“From graffiti to signs being knocked down or removed, these actions reduce the visibility of critical information and increase the risk of accidents, especially near intersections, schools, and high-traffic areas,” the authority said.

The FRA revealed it receives daily reports of missing signs, damage caused by careless driving, and graffiti on roadside infrastructure.

“Missing or damaged signs create confusion for road users and can lead to serious safety hazards,” the statement noted.

It added that reckless driving continues to take a toll on vital road infrastructure, compounding the issue and making maintenance more challenging.

The authority is now urging the public to play a role in protecting road assets and improving safety.

“We urge the public to respect road assets, drive responsibly, and report any damaged or missing signs,” the FRA said.

Members of the public can report issues by calling 5720 or emailing info@fijiroads.org.

The FRA stressed that maintaining clear and visible signage is critical to ensuring safe travel on Fiji’s roads.
