THE Fiji Roads Authority says the termination of the contract for the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project 2 (SARUP 2) was not because of FRA’s inability to fund the project.
FRA chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said SARUP 2 was partly funded by FRA, while 90 per cent of the funding was provided by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.
“Guizhou Road and Bridge Company was the tenderer contracted for the SARUP 2 and FRA has stated that it was a considered compliant tenderer,” Mr Moore said in a statement.
“Guizhou is also an internationally operating contractor that has delivered many large-scale projects and has the experience that is relevant to SARUP 2.
“There was no reason to not award the contract.”
Mr Moore also revealed that under governance rules of FRA, ADB and the World Bank direct appointment of tenders was not permitted.
“The works will be retendered.”
