Four people, including a nine-year-old girl, lost their lives this morning following a motor vehicle accident in Vatukoula.
Police said the victims were returning from a family function in Ba when the driver, a 43-year-old man, allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a nearby river.
The driver, his wife, their nine-year-old daughter and his sister-in-law were rushed to Tavua Hospital, where medical officials later confirmed their deaths.
A fourth passenger who was travelling in the vehicle survived the crash and escaped serious injury.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are continuing.
The latest tragedy adds to the growing road death toll and serves as another reminder for motorists to exercise caution on Fiji’s roads.
