Fiji Airways Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings says he was impressed with the performance of the four debutants who played in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens tournaments in Los Angeles and Vancouver.

Army duo Anasa Qaranivalu and Rokoua Rasaku, Police forward Alusio Vakadranu and Uluinakau utility Ponipate Loganimasi booked their place in the last two tournaments.

Gollings said the new guys did really well on the tour.

He said those players came back with better knowledge and experience which made the national squad depth stronger.

“We are happy now to go and build towards Hong Kong which is obviously a big tournament for Fiji and we know that,” Gollings said.

“But I think in the next couple of tournaments we can really push ourselves and solidify our qualification place for the 2024 Paris Olympics which is the key.

“However we want to knock off some tournaments now to win.”

Fiji has not won a tournament in the 2023 HSBC WSS. The closest the side got was a runner-up finish at the revised Hong Kong 7s last year.

The next Hong Kong 7s will be played from March 30 to April 2 followed by the Singapore 7s from April 8-9.
