IN a milestone achievement, the Ba Women’s Forum has gained official recognition from the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC).
Forum president Dr Maria Dotton confirmed that members of the FHEC had visited the training centre in Ba last Friday to tour the facility.
“We’ve been wanting to be recognised by the Higher Education Commission because this is a way for our graduates to have a national qualification,” she said, adding the forum had upskilled more than 1400 women.
“So, with this recognition, the facility will be a hub, so it’s easy for them to get a job, or to be an entrepreneur.
“All our students have 400 hours for every course, which is a big accomplishment.”
Dr Dotton said the goal was to help these women transition and attain formal qualifications.
“So, we want to maintain that standard, so that the Higher Education (commission) will also be satisfied with all our graduates.”
Dr Dotton confirmed that the Women, Children and Social Protection Ministry was providing a grant to pay allowances to the trainers.
