Former LTA staff charged for accepting $11,000 in inducements

A former customer service officer with the Land Transport Authority accused of accepting a bribe of more than $11,000 has been released on a $1000 non-cash bail bond.

Losevati Muailasekula Cokanasiga made her first appearance charged with a count of bribery at the Nasinu Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Ms Cokanasiga is alleged to have without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, accepted an advantage of $11,117.28 from one Ponipate Sevou as an inducement or reward for performing acts in her capacity as a public servant.

According to FICAC, the alleged incident occurred between May 1, 2021, and January 31, 2022.

Prosecution lawyer Lanieta More has served the first phase of disclosures.

The Magistrate while granting bail also ordered Ms Cokanasiga to not re-offend while on bail, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and to surrender all travel documents.

Other conditions include reporting to the FICAC office every month beginning on May 9.

The case has been adjourned to May 14.
