Joshua Rahman has consented to be extradited to New Zealand to face similar charges.
He took the witness stand in the Suva Magistrates Court today to confirm under oath before Acting Chief Magistrate Waleen George that he had instructed his lawyers that he consented to, and was willing to voluntarily surrender himself for extradition on the condition that if convicted and sentenced in NZ, any sentence he served there would be reduced from his sentence in Fiji.
The matter will be called on May 13 for a ruling.
Rahman was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 14 years, for being in possession of over $30million worth of cocaine found at the residence he shared with his father.
He had been earlier convicted by the High Court in Suva of the same charge after he was found in possession of cocaine worth more than $30million in February 2019.
Rahman is in court again after the Director of Public Prosecutions filed an application for his extradition to face similar charges in NZ.
