Magistrate Semi Babitu has told drug-charged foreign national Chukwuemeka Phabian to file a formal bail application at the High Court in Lautoka on his next mention date.
Mr Phabian is charged in relation to the alleged unlawful importation of illicit substances seized during a joint controlled operation between the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and Fiji Police Force last week.
Mr Phabian is believed to be an associate of three men charged and produced in court on Monday for their alleged involvement in the unlawful importation of more than four kilograms of methamphetamine.
He is charged with a count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and, since he also breached the conditions of his visitor’s visa, he faces the additional charge of violating the Prohibited Immigrant Section 13(1)(b) (2)(a) and Section 64 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2003.
The court heard Mr Phabian had engaged a private lawyer to represent him.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Siteri Camaicolo sought further time to file additional disclosures.
The court heard the prosecution would be filing a similar application to that of the three men charged in the case.
Mr Babitu remanded Mr Phabian in custody and transferred the matter to the High Court in Lautoka before adjourning the case to June 2.
