Investment Fiji issued 163 foreign investment certificates which had a proposed combined value of $745m in the 2019-2020 financial year, states its annual report that was tabled in Parliament this week.

Investment Fiji said these 163 investments were expected to generate 3434 jobs.

Investment Fiji received 1592 investment and trade enquiries through marketing initiatives in key markets, promoting investment opportunities and Fijian products.

It said 128 joint venture queries were also received by Investment Fiji to match high-value capital investment with Fijian companies and opportunities through domestic investor engagements.

“In March 2020 with four months of our financial year to run, the world was plunged into economic distress as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said chairwoman Jenny Seeto.

“Border closures and subdued global FDI (foreign direct investment) flows and consumer demand severely impacted on the organisation’s work and subsequent deliverables.”
