To promote mental and physical health among health care professionals, and providing crucial public health education, the National Wellness Medics Committee has organised a two-day Wellness Medics Inter-District Football competition at Subrail Park, Labasa.

Liaison officer Ravneel Chand said this year’s competition is hosted by the Northern Medics Committee, and the event aims to foster wellness, camaraderie, and awareness among healthcare professionals.

He said the competition with the support of BSP Life is poised to make a meaningful impact within the healthcare community and beyond.

“Working in the health sector demands an exceptional level of resilience, commitment, and dedication,” Chand said.

“These responsibilities often take a toll on the physical, emotional, and mental health of our workforce.

“With this in mind, our tournament was created not just as a sporting event, but as a wellness initiative aimed at reducing professional burnout, improving mental health and promote wellness among health professionals, promote public awareness of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Communicable Diseases (CDs), HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse, and strengthening professional relationships and collaboration among healthcare professionals across sectors.”

He said following the successful inaugural tournament held in 2023, Northern Medics FC is proud to host this year’s event, with a vision to make it even more impactful.

“We aim to bringing together healthcare professionals from the Ministry of Health, ASPEN, and the private health sector across Fiji.”

Chand said in addition to the football matches, there will be a wellness screening tent for the public and awareness activities focusing on Drug Abuse, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and Communicable Diseases (CDs).
