VODAFONE Fijiana XV interim coach Mike Legge has called for a more physical and complete performance from his side as they turn their focus to this Saturday’s clash against Manusina Samoa at the 4R Stadium in Govind Park, Ba.
Legge said the introduction of new players was encouraging but stressed the need for the team to step up against a traditionally powerful Samoan outfit.
“For us, it’s about the collision. We know Manusina will bring a real physical game, a real Samoan style of rugby,” he said.
Legge said maintaining intensity across the full 80 minutes would be one of the key challenges laid down to his players this week.
“Sticking in for the full 80 minutes is something we’ve challenged the girls on. That’s going to be a big focus for us as we prepare.”
While satisfied with aspects of the set-piece, Legge admitted there is still plenty of room for improvement, particularly with new combinations being tested within the squad.
“Our set-piece was good, especially with some new combinations in there, but we still need some work. We were never perfect and we never will be,” Legge said.
With preparations now shifting into a crucial week, Legge said the team would regroup and fine-tune their game before facing Samoa.
As the team braces for a physical encounter, the focus remains on sharpening execution and matching Samoa’s intensity in what is expected to be a hard-fought Pacific contest.
