Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Don Natabe has labelled the FNRL Vodafone Super 8 and the FNRL Women’s Premiership finals that came to an end on Saturday, a success.
In the men’s competition, Saru Dragons managed to steal a 10-8 victory over former champions Nadera Panthers while USP Raiders dethroned Police Blues 14-12 in the women’s division.
“Exceptional performance from both the men’s and the women’s finals,” he said.
“You could just feel the intensity in both of the finals, and the competition was indeed a success.”
He also mentioned that he was happy with the turnout of fans at Albert Park on Saturday to witness the finals.
“The pavilion was full and we even had people standing all around the ground that was gated.”
“This just shows that there is so much support and love for the sport from the people of Fiji.”
Natabe said he was impressed with the men’s final where the Dragons managed to hold off the Panthers who camped in their 22-meter line towards the end of the game with a two-point gap.
“It was just spectacular, both teams played very well until the end, but the boys from Saru wanted it more and had what it takes to claim the win.
“Also hats off to the girls from USP Raiders, for defeating such an experienced Police Blues side.”
