The Fiji National Rugby League has implemented a 20 per cent pay cut across the board amongst other changes as the effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt across all sporting bodies and businesses in the nation.

“The FNRL has implemented a 20 per cent reduction in salaries all across yet all of our full-time staff members remain working,” confirmed acting chief executive officer Don Natabe.

The changes come as the FNRL continues to adapt to the current situation with changes in its financial sector as well as its services.

“All our future programs and a number of our operations is being digitised and optimised for online delivery including high performance unit (HPU) and academy, competitions services, and education.

“Digitising our services can and will reduce a number of our operating costs in the future and the pandemic has given us part of the reason to do so,” Natabe also confirmed that mobile service provider and sponsor Vodafone had remained and continued sponsorship with the federation.

“Rugby league is fortunate to be only one of two Vodafone-sponsored sports that receive funding this year from them.

“We are immensely grateful to Vodafone as our only long standing partner for their continued support during this pandemic.

Natabe said although the brunt of COVID-19 was being felt, the FNRL remained positive for the future.

“We are optimistic about the future and continue to have positive discussions with our partners and suppliers.”
