MORE importantly, remember your vanua and who you are, and who you represent.”

This was the stern advice accorded by the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to the FIJI Water Flying Fijians when they presented their iTatau to him at State House in Suva last Friday.

As the team prepares to depart for Europe tonight to compete in the Nations Championship, the President’s words served as a powerful reminder of the deep connection between their identity, heritage, and the honour of representing Fiji on the international stage.

The ceremony, which included the official presentation of the team’s itatau, was attended by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and marked a significant cultural moment for the squad.

It reinforced the importance of carrying not just the expectations of their supporters but also the blessings of the nation’s highest office.

“Go forward with your mission and with our blessings, knowing that there is a nation behind you,” he said, emphasising the pride and responsibility the player’s bear.

Flying Fijians head coach Senirusi Seruvakula described the occasion as both solemn and meaningful, highlighting how it strengthens the team’s values and resolves ahead of their opening match against Wales on July 5.

For the Flying Fijians, the iTatau was more than tradition—it was a profound symbol of the bond between rugby, culture, and country as they embark on this historic international challenge.
