* BEACHCOMBER continues to come across stories of cattle “trespassing” into neighbouring paddocks.
A village in Wainibuka, Tailevu has come up with a solution to solve the issue.
Any cattle found to have damaged a plantation in Nasautoka Village will be sold and its proceeds go towards the compensation of farms that have been damaged.
This is the law of the village after numerous complaints on cattle damaging other farms.
A farmer had hopes of renovating his home but his plans were destroyed when cattle destroyed his watermelon farm.
The damage was estimated to be about $1500.
Mr Tikoicina, who is leasing a 36 acre farm just outside of Nasautoka, said he had exhausted all avenues in the hope to save his farm.
“I have asked the villagers to look after their cattle because it just hurts when you look forward to your harvest and the fruits of labour only to be tarnished because of the irresponsibility of some people.”
