Five more Braille machines for School of Blind

Update: 12:10PM VISUALLY-impaired students from the Fiji School of the Blind in Vatuwaqa received five braille machines today.

Brought in by a couple from England, the machines – a system of reading and writing by touch used by the blind – will enable the students to read.

The couple, Peter and Margaret Long of the charity group, Children of Fiji, said two of the machines were brand new while the rest were second-hand.

Mr Long said the machines were donated by a couple from their Cattistock village in England who lost their daughter to cancer.

Children of Fiji is a charity that is registered both in the UK and in Fiji with a declared aim to advance education, health and welfare, and to relieve poverty of children in Fiji.

Their projects in Fiji include the construction of three bridges, water and sanitation as well as providing assistance for education.
