People living in the Tailevu, Rewa and Naitasiri region have a new fitness centre with the opening yesterday of the Planet Fitness Gym, at Hexagon Complex, Davuilevu Nausori.
Owner Louis Uluibau, the strength and conditioning coach for Fiji Bati, said he wanted to give sportsmen and women – and people in the area – access to a facility that could motivate them to keep fit or excel in the sport they played.
He said travelling to Suva to access training gyms was time consuming and expensive, and discouraged people from keeping fit or seriously pursuing sports as a career.
“It has always been my dream to open a gym here in the Nausori area and I am so happy for the accomplishment,” he said.
“I thank god for making it all come true.” Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka opened the newly built facility.
He said the fitness centre would open up many opportunities for people of all ages.
“This facility is very important for sports and recreation, especially to our people living in the Tailevu Rewa and Naitasiri areas,” he said.
“Fitness centres like this provide a place for people to participate in sports and training activities.
“They also provide a gathering place were sports and social activities can occur.”
