Vodafone Fijiana XV captain Alfreda Fisher says her team is ready to stand strong against a tough and physical Samoa side in tomorrow’s final of the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship at Lawaqa Park.

With both teams unbeaten and Samoa coming off a dominant 64-14 win over Tonga on Tuesday, anticipation is building for a fiery clash between Pacific rugby’s top women’s sides.

Fisher says the Fijiana are not intimidated.

“We know Samoa is a physical team. For that we will not back down.

“I trust the girls to execute our game plan and stay focused on our roles on the field,” Fisher said.

Fisher stressed that defence and discipline would be key areas for the Fijiana, especially against a side that has shown attacking firepower and forward strength.

“Our main focus is to work on our defence and for the girls to know their individual roles on the field.”

The final kicks off at 3pm tomorrow at Lawaqa Park, and Fisher says the team is determined to give their best performance in front of their home crowd.

With leadership from the experienced core and rising young talent in the squad, the Fijiana XV are eyeing a strong finish to their Oceania campaign.
