The Fire rugby 7s team gears up to elevate their performance at the 2024 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s, taking place at Lawaqa Park from January 18-20.
Having secured the runner-up position last year, narrowly losing to Army 12-5 in the cup final, Fire is determined to claim the cup this time.
Team manager Ifereimi Vesikula said every team aimed to win the cup. “So as us after settling in the runners up position last year, our hope is to go one better,” Vesikula said.
In the second week of training, the team faced disruptions during the festive season due to players’ work commitments.
“We are into the second week of our training; we had disturbances during the festive season as most our players worked.
Despite this, they have retained key players from last year and recruited new talents, all focused on enhancing the overall performance of the Fire team.
Two Fire players who have joined the national 7s team are Vuiviawa Naduvalo and Tira Patterson and the team management is hopeful more players from the club will join the national extended squad.
“Players have been working hard and putting in a lot of effort and not only aiming for a title at the Coral Coast 7s but we also aim to have more of our players in the national team extended squad and fight for their spot in the squad.”
